Stuart Roberts
Hikurangi Coastal

Living and farming at Hukerenui. Known for honesty, integrity, professionalism, tenacity and making things happen, I am a Kiwi with a diverse, sales, marketing, business development, event management and motor sport background. A registered electrician, I started my first company in 1987 and have accumulated a wealth of business and practical experience.
Extensive involvement as an organiser, administrator and competitor at both national and international level and holding a Motor Sport New Zealand FIA International Rally License I am passionate about the positive economic benefits of such events.
I believe that economic growth is vital for Whangarei and that our communities must be supported and encouraged by council. Strong vibrant economic growth to achieve community wide prosperity and employment opportunities for all. We need to slash bureaucracy, reduce council costs, streamline procedures, protect and uphold landowners’ property rights, provide better support and funding to communities.
Whangarei harbour is under-utilised when compared to harbours throughout New Zealand, there is poor access, poor parking, insufficient boat ramps and a lack of tourism ventures to utilise this amazing environment. Activities such as harbour cruises, fishing charters and water sports need to be encouraged and supported. The Town Basin, a jewel in the heart of our city, our tourism and entertainment hub needs more shops, restaurants and cafes’ with the Council encouraging music and dancing to create excitement and atmosphere. Current parking must remain and be increased.
I am one of two Go-Whangarei candidates in the Hikurangi-Coastal Ward standing with Susy Bretherton who is my fellow Go-Whangarei candidate. I cannot stress too heavily the importance of voting for both of us, our Go-Whangarei Mayoral candidate David Blackley and advising your friends in other Whangarei District Council Wards to vote for their Go-Whangarei Candidates if you want a zero rate rise, free parking, cheaper rubbish services, free rural rubbish stations, more community funding, less bureaucracy and the other things that only a truly united team of people can promise you with the communities mandate in this Council Election and the combined voting power in Council Chambers to make it happen.
The alternative is a group of independent Councillors all fighting for their individual causes, each one needing to convince at least seven other Councillors that theirs is the correct opinion……sound like a bun fight, a fiasco in the making then read back copies of the Northern Advocate, Whangarei Leader and the Whangarei Report from the last three years!
My interests include: Rallying, Boating, Waterskiing, Trail riding, 4WD, Hunting, Horse riding.
